I thought I had writers block, but then I started thinking, hmmm, what is it that you love to do during the winter out here on the North Fork?

Cooking and reading were my first thoughts, then again, I love to do both no matter what the weather, (BTW I do talk to myself and quite often, it’s out loud). Then I realized there are some really great classes that one can take to either enhance their abilities or flat out become an expert.

Here they are.

Boating

The first course I am going to mention is one that I will be taking and that’s getting my captain’s license.

There’s no one better than Captain Stephen (Steve) Catarella to help make that happen. Captain Steve’s school is called Captain’s School of Long Island Inc. He can take you to the expert level and certify you as a captain. He offers group and private lessons and a boater safety course (which is different than the captain’s course.)

There are tests involved so be ready! Call (631) 369-9630 for more info.

PS: A big thank you to my friend David Rattiner who is a graduate of the school and one heck of a writer I might add!

Cooking

Peter Berley Launched North Fork Garden Kitchen and Culinary Studio in South Jamesport where he offers a variety of cooking classes and all look divine! He will help take you to the next level and you will have a blast while you’re at it.

And the Culinary Arts Center at Suffolk County Community College in Riverhead offers classes for those who want to become more than just a home chef.

Reading

Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport offers a “Book Club in a Bag” program. Located in the circulation lobby, it’s everything you need to start your own book club.  They also have book discussions, in which you can choose between mystery or fiction and non-fiction or do both!

The library is located at 539 First Street in Greenport. Call (631) 477-0600 for more info.

And of course all local libraries offer all types of classes during the winter months. Check out the schedules in SoutholdCutchogue and Mattituck, to name a few.

There you have it, that’s my Spin![/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
