Riverhead

By August 10, 2011February 25th, 2016No Comments

Riverhead is where you have to make a choice: take Route 27 to the South Fork or Route 25 to the North Fork. Until recently, only the adventurous stayed put in Riverhead. With everything this town has to offer, it’s no wonder Riverhead has been “discovered.”

For kids, Riverhead has the twin thrills of Atlantis Marine World, where you can go on a real shark dive. Resurgent Main Street is making a come back, one store at a time. The most spectacular is the restored art deco Suffolk Theater. If shopping is the extreme sport you like best, there is Tanger Outlet 165-plus store outlet and, further down the road, every big box store you can imagine.

Of course no one comes out East to avoid nature. You can paddle down the Peconic, hike the 2,700-acre David A. Sarnoff Pine Barrens Preserve, watch the buffalo roam at a nearby bison farm, and tee off at three area golf clubs. Take a break for lunch at Lobster Roll, sister restaurant to Amagansett’s fabled Lunch, and break at Briermere Farms for pies so delicious that you may get emotional.

Sheri’s picks for fabulous and super yummy Riverhead hotspots:

Atlantis Marine World- family attraction
Tanger Outlet Mall- shopping
The Riverhead Project- new and delicious restaurant
Atlantis Hyatt Place Hotel
