House proud
With its unique profile, this home — built in 1969 by Claude Samton — looks like it’s poised for takeoff, hence the name “Winged Weekend Flight.” It’s not only a one of a kind, it’s also a rare chance to own a home that truly reflects the times: a midcentury-modern classic built during the “Golden Age of Travel,” the 1950s to 1970s.
What’s the plan?
This three-level home is entered by an elevated foot bridge leading to the large 28 x 28 deck, which offers entry through sliding doors into the open-format living room and dining area, each 225 square feet. This space at the center of the home is anchored by a freestanding masonry fireplace and an open staircase ascending to the mezzanine. On the first floor it provides a hub and access to the three bedrooms and the kitchen. The second level houses the original primary bedroom of 190 square feet, a sitting room of equal size and a half bath in between. The lower level has an 18 x 18 foot gym, laundry, and two storage spaces.
What’s cooking?
The 160 square-foot kitchen is a study in compact design, with enough space to prep meals and plenty of natural-hued wood cabinets to store all your goods and gadgets. The counters are granite and the appliances are made by Thermador, Sub-Zero and Bosch. There’s a pass-through window to the dining area.
What else?
The entire wall facing the deck is glass, offering an expansive and private southern view into the woods. The home is one block from the beach.

One cool thing
This home was featured in four-page spread called “Winged Weekend Flight” in a lifestyle magazine when first built and occupied by two families, related to each other. The unknown author of the article called it a “wood-hewn escape from city ways,” as it was originally designed with natural American red cedar paneling on the inside.
Agent’s callout
From the moment you enter the driveway, then walk up the walkway you immediately feel a sense of peace and calm,” says Sheri Winter Parker, the Corcoran real estate agent handling the listing. “I do think midcentury modern design can lend itself to that — and certainly this one [does], with the angles of the house and the way the light flows in.”

Winged Weekend Flight is a block away from the shores of Long Island Sound, 1.8 miles from the village of Greenport, and .8 miles from Inlet Pond County Park. Also nearby are Stirling Basin, Norman E. Klipp Marine Park and the North Fork wine route.
