Is Rentable Furniture the Next Big Home Trend?

As the baby boomers often like to point out, millennials aren’t buying homes, we’re renting. If you are already renting an apartment, townhouse, or renting in a single-family home, what else can you “rent” instead of buy? You can lease a car, obviously. Hell, you can lease purses and shoes, and even your entire wardrobe. Why not rent your furniture too?
Anyone who has moved from one apartment to the next knows that moving furniture is a huge pain in the butt. If you don’t want to shell out anywhere from $500 to $3,000 for movers, you’re doing it on your own, hopefully with a very helpful BFF (and her boyfriend) to help lift your heavy furniture.
Feather helps you eliminate that problem, while also avoiding dropping hundreds (to thousands) on decorating your home. Instead, you can rent it all!
This startup company really lets you rent furniture for just about every room you can think of. You can furnish your living room, your dining room, your bedroom, your home office, and so much more. You can even get furniture for your patio!
The best part? You can rent from brands you already know and love! Feather offers products from West Elm, Pottery Barn, Joybird, Casper, and Tuft & Needle. And if you don’t have the time to hand pick every item you want to rent, Feather offers packages. You can select a bedroom setup, like the Angelina Bedroom Package, for $193/month and you’ll get a bed frame, Casper mattress, nightstand, and a standing lamp.

Right now, as temperatures climb into the 100s in some areas, you can even rent an air conditioner. Rather than drop $300 – $400 on something you will only use for two to three months of the year, you can instead rent it for $24/month (for the whole year).
Feather gives their customers the option to customize their plans. All prices on their website are based on a 12-month plan. However, you can drop down to 3-month plans (the monthly cost will go up, however). Customers are also able to keep the product for longer than 12 months, paying 10% less by month 13. They can exchange the furniture item (for free!) or buy it after their plan is over. Shipping and delivery are also included in the monthly payment cost!
Now, some items, like a bedside lamp and a nightstand, might not make sense to rent, while others do if you move from place to place after each lease ends. Plus, Feather is a great option for people who only temporarily rent due to work, for 3-6 months, rather than a whole year.
