The North Fork Real Estate Market is Seeing a Flurry of Action
“From Riverhead to Orient the whole North Fork is exploding with activity,” says Carol Tintle, a licensed associate broker, senior vice president, and regional manager at Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty, which is opening a new office in Greenport to cater to the growing region. As many North Fork renters are choosing to buy, “the market has come back this fall and is in full swing in all price ranges.”
But the market’s strength this fall is only part of a bigger trend of growth in the region, which began before the summer season. Judi Desiderio, chief executive officer of Town & Country Real Estate, notes that according to her firm’s market reports, the North Fork even outperformed the South Fork as the number of home sales grew by 24 percent in the first half of 2012. “I believe the North Fork is finally realizing the public image it so deserves,” says Desiderio. “It’s no longer a sleepy little farm area.”
Sheri Winter Clarry, a senior vice president and licensed associate broker at The Corcoran Group, has also seen a shift in perception as she says, “the North Fork is starting to become more and more discovered.” A significant aspect of this exposure has been the expansion of the region’s dining scene, including Greenport’s First and South, which opened in May, and Southold’s seafood spot, A Lure Chowder House & “Oyster-ia.”
Desiderio has seen a similar transition in the vineyard-filled region. “It has always been a fertile place for agriculture and famous dark skies, but now the North Fork “a hotbed for those of us who are foodies with a love of great wines.” Carol Tintle, Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty, 5 Main St., Cold Spring Harbor, 335-9003; danielgale.com.
